The facility where SASA will produce PTA, the raw material of polyester, clears the deck for opening.

The facility established by SASA Polyester Sanayi AŞ in Adana with state support to produce Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), which is the raw material of polyester and fiber, for the first time, is planned to start operating by the end of the year.
Following the licensing, technical service, and engineering agreements entered into by SASA with companies in the United States and Spain, the preparations for the opening of the PTA facility, whose foundations were laid on a 375 decare area in the district of Seyhan in 2021, have come to an end.
The petrochemical investment of approximately 1,7 billion dollars with which Turkey aims to prevent PTA imports will contribute to the economy and employment.
The facility, which is supported by the "project-based state aid" application of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, will have an annual PTA production capacity of 1 million 750 thousand tons.
"We have come to the end of the road we set off for to produce PTA in 2021"
SASA Polyester Sanayi AŞ Board Member Mehmet Şeker told the AA correspondent that SASA, which was acquired by Erdemoğlu Holding in 2015, increased its polyester production capacity to 1,4 million tons.
Şeker exdpressed that polyester is used in many areas and said, "Our production capacity will reach 2,2 million tons in approximately 6 months. We will meet all of Turkey's polyester needs. We will export the part remaining from the domestic market. I believe that we will reach an export of approximately 1 billion dollars by the end of 2026."
Stating that the facility under construction in Adana is girding its loins to start serving, Şeker said, "We have come to the end of the road we set off for to produce PTA in 2021. We will commission our businesses and produce PTA before the end of the year. We are currently working at full throttle."
"We will prevent imports thanks to the investment"
Mentioning that the production will be carried out for the first time in Turkey, Şeker said:
"Turkey imports PTA worth 1 billion dollars annually. Through the investment, we will prevent this import. Therefore, we will contribute to closing the current account deficit. It will be the largest PTA facility in the region extending to Europe, North Africa, Russia, and India. Hopefully, by the end of 2026, SASA will be the largest polyester producer in the entire Asia region, North Africa, Russia, and Europe, up to India."
Explaining that the 300-400 tons of equipment required for the installation of the facility was brought to the town through a difficult journey, Şeker added that approximately 1,7 billion dollars were spent on the project and that the amount of investments made after SASA joined Erdemoğlu Holding reached 4 billion dollars.
